Comparison of Doordarshan and Private News Channel
Private News channel’s in today’s world seems every easy going news channel. It is so easy for us to know about what’s going in the world. Access to information is not an issue. Private News Channel’s has become a trend nowadays. They provide us information about world, nation, sports, and entertainment news. They are around us 24x7 giving news to the audience. But years ago only rare channels could provide us news, even they had particular time slot for news.
Doordarshan was the only channel which provides news for a particular time slot, whereas private news channel broadcast news around the clock.
Doordarshan’s time slot is for only 30 minutes. They mainly focus on the news related to major issue. The news content has both national and international. They cover wide subject such as political, social, economic, and sports etc. They give more importance and weight age to news related to government, views on different issues, and views of other side is brief in nature. They usually avoid sensitive issue, it is not elaborated. Graphics used in DD1 are very simple they avoid extensive use of graphics. Limited news information is given, only two or four news are broadcasted. The major issue of nation related news is more focused. The images used by them are old. They do not use updated images. For example if they are giving a follow up for a story. They will use the previous video (library chitar). Debate on an issue is rarely found. Because of particular time slot they are unable to provide more news to the audience. They provide news in a neutral tone. The variety of news is less here and in occasions many issues or news, that are considered as having ‘National Importance are not given due importance. The dressing of DD1 women anchor is in saree.
Private news channel on the other hand gives higher weight age to which is considered sensational and controversial in the viewer’s domain. It puts up the views of both the side in the issue raised. They give news all around the clock. The uses of graphics are extensive. Audiences like to see visuals more than the content. It helps them to understand it easily and feel them connected to the issues. They provide a rundown to the major happenings in the country. They have different time slot for every news beat such as world, nation, sports, entertainment, etc. They have 1 hour debate on a major issue. The dressing of the anchor depends upon the occasions. The use updated images and video to take audience in confidence. Many private news channels do yellow journalism. Private news channel sometimes will form basis towards some news if they follow some ideologies or support a political party.
